"School is not shut, campus is peaceful" Deputy VC says

Contrary to reports, it has now been confirmed that the University of Lagos was never shut down over the recent protests.

There were confirmed reports that students of the University of Lagos protested over the death of Oluchi Anekwe, a 300-level Accounting student who was killed by electrocution.

However, the reports that the University was shut down over the protests are false, according to The Sun.

Commenting on the reports of the school being closed, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Duro Oni, said:

"Unilag is not shut. We are in our offices and have attended various meetings. Lectures are ongoing and the campus is peaceful."

A lecturer of the Political Science Department who decided to remain anonymous also confirmed that students did protest but reiterated saying: “The university was never shut and that calm has returned to the institution."Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Laja Odukoya, also said the information that the university was shut because of the protest was false and that his members have been lecturing the students.
