Girona's Ukrainian forward Viktor Tsygankov reportedly refused to play in the club's opening La Liga 2 match against Leganes, which ended in a 1-1 draw, according to Spanish media. The reason cited is Tsygankov's desire to force a transfer to Celta Vigo, with whom he has already agreed personal terms.

The 28-year-old Tsygankov joined Girona in 2023, having since made 108 appearances and scored 19 goals for the Catalan side. He has also earned 67 caps for the Ukrainian national team, netting 14 goals, and featured in the 2024 European Championship finals. Viktor Tsygankov is keen to continue his career in La Liga with Celta, following Girona's relegation to the Spanish second tier at the end of last season.
