UK Sports Secretary Lisa Nandy has described the Premier League's ruling finding Manchester City guilty of financial breaches as an "extremely serious" matter. The British politician made the statement on the BBC shortly after Premier League chiefs announced that City had been found guilty of 115 financial charges.

"This is an extremely serious case. The Premier League's statement is crystal clear and very robust," Nandy said, adding: "Manchester City have every right to appeal. However, the situation is deeply concerning for City supporters and for all football fans alike."

The English club was officially charged more than three years ago with 115 financial breaches spanning nine seasons between 2008–09 and 2017–18.

"The independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all charges concerning serious breaches of Premier League financial rules across nine consecutive seasons, as well as the majority of counts regarding failure to cooperate with the investigation," the Premier League said in an official statement.

According to the findings of the independent tribunal, Manchester City entered into manipulated commercial agreements with specific companies to artificially inflate revenues and disguise costs. Other established violations include providing inaccurate financial reports, concealing true financial figures from football authorities, breaching Premier League and UEFA financial regulations, and systematically failing to act in good faith and cooperate with the league.
