TV Icon Hélène Hendriks Still Harbors One Big Dream: 'That Costs an Incredible Amount of Money'

Hélène Hendriks has become an indispensable figure in the television world. While she gained recognition as a sports presenter, she is now much more than that. Hendriks isn't sure if she'll always remain in sports, but there's certainly one major dream she hopes to see come true, as she reveals in the Sportnieuws.nl World Cup football podcast.

Hendriks initially rose to prominence as a familiar face in football broadcasting, but her portfolio has since expanded significantly. She hosts the major Staatsloterij show, works for Ziggo Sport, and presents both 'Oranjezomer' and 'Oranjezondag'. That's a diverse range of programs. "That's precisely what I enjoy most," Hendriks explains about her work.

Hélène Hendriks' Endeavors

"I love the combination. I'm always eager to try new things, but my heart truly lies with sports. That's why I find the Staatsloterij show so enjoyable; it incorporates many sporting elements," the presenter elaborates.

However, when discussing her ultimate dream, her focus returns to sports. "My big dream, which hasn't come true yet and might never, is to host the World Cup or the Olympic Games," she reveals. "But then you're dependent on the broadcasting rights," Hendriks quickly adds.

'They'll Never Ask Me'

The only option, it's concluded in the podcast, would be NOS. "But they'll never ask me," Hendriks believes. "I think I'm too much of a commercial face. You see at NOS themselves that they have a different type of presenter, which is perfectly fine. It suits NOS well. I just don't think I'd fit in there. I'd quickly push the boundaries."

Robert Maaskant, however, believes a move to NOS isn't necessary at all. "I don't think it's inconceivable that NOS might lose those rights in a few years. Also, because significant budget cuts are expected. Then commercial broadcasters will also get their chance," he assures her.

Good News for Hendriks

That would indeed be good news for Hendriks. "Of course, it costs an incredible amount of money. So you have to consider what's most profitable. That would be football, as it attracts the most viewers. But let's hope Talpa can broadcast the Olympic Games someday," she concludes on the topic.
