Hamburg has intensified negotiations with Arsenal for Fábio Vieira in recent hours, but the two clubs remain far apart on the Portuguese playmaker's valuation. According to Sky Sports, the English champions have set the player's price at €18 million.
Despite initial inflexibility, the fact that the 26-year-old Portuguese is entering the final year of his contract could lead the London club to lower their demands later in the transfer window. The former FC Porto midfielder himself has expressed a desire to return to the club where he was on loan last season.
According to German newspaper BILD, while the Gunners are willing to review their asking price, the €18 million figure represents a significant hurdle for the historic German club, whose current offer is below €10 million.
Should the transfer materialize at a high value, it could force the North German club to break their transfer record, set in 2016 with the acquisition of Filip Kostic from Stuttgart for €14 million.
Erick Huwer, a member of Hamburg's board, commented on the process. "We fell a little bit in love with Fábio last year, but we won't be reckless. If Arsenal says yes, we'll wait for him. If they say no, we'll wait for another player," the executive stated, in remarks reported by the German press.
In the 2025/26 season, Fábio Vieira made 31 appearances for the Bundesliga's 13th-placed team, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.
