Mercedes Formula 1 team principal and co-owner Toto Wolff has delivered a scathing assessment of his fellow paddock rivals, making pointed remarks that appear aimed directly at Christian Horner.

Horner was dismissed by Red Bull last year following a high-profile scandal and an internal power struggle. The Briton has recently launched an extensive media campaign to promote his book, Drive, in an effort to rebuild his public image.

"Many of the successful team principals in Formula 1 are those traumatised, humiliated drivers who never achieved serious success," Wolff remarked, seemingly describing Horner. "So we all try to compensate by being awful to the real drivers, because now we are the ones in control of them."

Wolff also competed as a racing driver earlier in his career, though the Austrian previously admitted his driving days came to an end not due to financial constraints, but because he simply lacked the final few percent of talent needed to perform at the highest level.
