Tinubu told to suspend Wike over alleged FCT land-grabbing scandal
Former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations of land grabbing, corruption, and abuse of office.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Frank condemned Wike’s alleged illegal allocation of lands to his relatives, associates, and political allies at the expense of ordinary Nigerians and investors. He cited reports from People’s Gazette and revelations by Senator Ireti Kingibe, describing the alleged land racketeering as a “national scandal that demands urgent intervention.”
“It is alleged that Wike dishes out land on a daily basis to friends, family, and associates, while ordinary citizens and investors with genuine needs are sidelined,” Frank said, adding that the Minister even revoked land belonging to an embassy to gift it to a personal ally.
Frank, currently an ambassador for the United Liberation Movement for West Papua, warned: “This blatant disregard for the rule of law will discourage local and foreign investors, leading to economic setbacks for the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.”
He criticised President Tinubu for failing to take decisive action. “You suspended Betta Edu over less grievous allegations. Why is Wike’s case different? This silence is troubling and unacceptable,” he said.
Frank accused anti-corruption bodies and the National Assembly of complicity through inaction, questioning whether their silence meant they, too, had benefitted from the land allocations.
He said: “How did Wike’s 95-year-old father or children, who have never worked, suddenly acquire prime lands in Abuja? This reeks of corruption.”
Frank demanded Wike’s immediate resignation or suspension, alongside the establishment of an independent probe. “Enough is enough! Mr President, your failure to act will make you complicit. Nigerians are watching,” he warned.
