Three Tottenham fan groups have urged the club's hierarchy to reconsider the potential appointment of Roberto De Zerbi, citing his past support for Marseille forward Mason Greenwood. Five losses in seven matches for the struggling London side have intensified pressure on interim manager Igor Tudor, who is currently dealing with the recent death of his father, Mario, as reported by DPA.
No final decision has been made regarding Tudor's future at the club, but De Zerbi has been linked with Tottenham after stepping down as head coach of Olympique Marseille in February.
According to the Press Association, it is unlikely he would accept a mid-season role, preferring instead to wait until summer to evaluate his options. However, fan groups Proud Lilywhites, Women of the Lane, and Spurs Reach have voiced concerns over the Italian's potential appointment, given his previous association with Greenwood at the Marseille club.
Former Manchester United forward Greenwood was accused in October 2022 of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm, based on allegations from his girlfriend, with photos and videos published online. Mason Greenwood subsequently resumed his career, joining Olympique Marseille in 2024.
“We are deeply concerned about this club, not just what happens on the pitch, but what Tottenham represents off it. It’s not just about results or style. It’s about values, identity, and the type of people we choose to represent us. We all want Tottenham to move forward, but how we do that matters. When someone in that position publicly defends a player like Mason Greenwood and presents him in a way that downplays the seriousness of what happened, it matters, not just in isolation, but in terms of what it signals,” stated the Proud Lilywhites group.
