The Los Angeles Lakers have added another seasoned veteran to their roster, signing center Kevon Looney to a one-year deal. The 30-year-old's agent informed ESPN that the contract is expected to be worth $3.9 million for his client.
Looney will provide additional depth at the center position, where he will play alongside recent acquisition Walker Kessler, who arrived from the Utah Jazz to replace the departed Deandre Ayton.
Kevon Looney spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans after playing his first 10 NBA seasons with the Golden State Warriors. He won three championships with the California franchise and built a reputation as a strong presence in the paint. In 21 games with the Pelicans, he averaged 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in under 15 minutes per contest.
In addition to Looney and Kessler, the Lakers have also brought in Sandro Mamukelashvili, Quentin Grimes, and Collin Sexton during the summer transfer window, which opened earlier this month.
The Lakers are also reportedly pursuing Kevon Looney's former Golden State teammate, forward Jonathan Kuminga, who recently indicated he would be leaving his current team, the Atlanta Hawks.
