At least three drivers are set to drop down the grid for Sunday's United States Grand Prix after fitting additional power unit components over the race weekend in Austin.
Arvid Lindblad, who started from the back of the pack in Malaysia a few weeks ago, has taken a second additional internal combustion engine and will serve a five-place grid penalty. Franco Colapinto faces a 10-place penalty after taking his first additional control electronics unit.
The heaviest penalty so far falls on Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, who faces a drop of at least 20 positions. The Brazilian kicks off the Texas weekend with an additional energy store and control electronics, both being his first extra elements of the season. He has also received a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, exhaust system, and auxiliary components, though all remain within his permitted seasonal allowance.
Oscar Piastri, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and Carlos Sainz have also taken on new auxiliary components, though none will receive a penalty. It remains possible that more drivers will introduce extra power unit elements as the weekend progresses, potentially increasing the number of grid penalties.
