The Signature Deal Everyone Awaited: Steph Curry Becomes NBA's New Record Holder!
Stephen Curry has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $116 million, according to ESPN. The deal includes a player option for the 2028-29 season. If Curry, one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, plays out the entirety of this contract, he will have spent all 20 of his NBA seasons with the same franchise.
ESPN data indicates that Curry's total career earnings from NBA contracts now stand at approximately $652 million, making him the highest-earning player in league history. He surpasses Kevin Durant, who is at $598 million, and LeBron James, with $592 million.
Despite having the opportunity to sign a maximum contract valued at $136.7 million, Curry opted for a $20 million reduction. This decision provides the Warriors with additional cap space for the upcoming summer, allowing them greater flexibility to assemble a more competitive roster. American media outlets estimate that the Warriors could have as much as $64 million in salary cap space next summer, opening the door for a significant acquisition.
Curry's Golden Era
The prolific shooter joined Golden State as the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Since then, he has led the San Francisco franchise to four NBA championships. His individual accolades include two regular-season MVP awards, one NBA Finals MVP, and 12 All-Star selections.
Last season, Curry was limited to just 43 games due to a knee injury, averaging 26.6 points and 4.4 made three-pointers per game. The Golden State Warriors concluded the season with a 37-45 record, their worst performance since the 2010-2011 season.
