After Marc Marquez sent a body double to a MotoGP riders' karting event ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, world championship organizers were far from impressed with the stunt.
Marquez himself revealed after the race at Motegi that he had received a reprimand for the stunt, for which he offered a sensible justification: the pressing need for physiotherapy on his right arm.
In the days following the Japanese GP, reports surfaced that MotoGP bosses were preparing sanctions for future infractions of this kind. According to The Race, cited by Motor Sport Magazine, a six-tier penalty system has been outlined, with the most severe penalty being a grid drop.
Penalty scale for skipping official PR events:
Official warning
€5,000 fine
€10,000 fine
€15,000 fine
Ban from participating in a designated portion of free practice
Grid penalty
The list of official PR commitments includes pre-weekend press conferences, pre-race promoter activities, the Sunday riders' parade, autograph sessions, and the Hero Walk. For the latter two, riders are required to spend at least 10 minutes in the designated area to avoid facing disciplinary action.
