Even by the end of the 2025 season, Formula 1 fans had already noticed numerous similarities between Lewis Hamilton's and Lando Norris's first World Championship titles.
Both drivers kicked off their inaugural championship campaigns with victories in Australia on March 16th. Their second wins came in Monaco on May 25th, before both recorded DNFs in Canada. Both Hamilton and Norris secured their first home Grand Prix win in Great Britain on July 6th, ultimately clinching the title in the final race of the season.
These parallels between their successes continued last Sunday in Hungary. It was at the Hungaroring where both drivers claimed their first victories as world champions, with both races near Budapest taking place on July 26th.
Furthermore, both 2009 and 2026 saw significant technical rule changes in the sport, which led to a downturn for McLaren. In 2009, Hamilton finished the year with only two victories; besides Hungary, he also won in Singapore during a season dominated by Brawn GP and Red Bull. It remains to be seen whether Norris will add more wins to his tally by the end of the current campaign, which still has 12 races remaining.
