All signs point to Bernardo Silva, once seemingly destined for Barcelona, now heading to their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. Recent reports, coupled with the Portuguese international's desire to settle his future before the World Cup, suggest this move is highly probable. It appears the Portuguese star felt more valued in the Spanish capital than in Catalonia, despite a long-standing flirtation with the *culers* over the years, and his playing style seemingly fitting better alongside talents like Pedri, De Jong, Gavi, and Fermín.

While José Mourinho likely gave his approval, the signing of his former Manchester City compatriot seems more like a club decision than solely a coach's. There's been much discussion about the dip in Madrid's midfield since they first lost German maestro Toni Kroos and then Croatian star Luka Modric, and Bernardo could be the best solution in years.

None of Real Madrid's subsequent signings have fully compensated for the quality both Kroos and Modric brought to the *merengues'* possession and creative play. This includes Tchouaméni, Camavinga, or Bellingham, as well as longer-serving squad members like Valverde or Ceballos.

It's unlikely that Mourinho, at this stage of his career, is focused on rebuilding a dominant team. However, Bernardo Silva, given his performances in England and for the national team, is a player who transcends any tactical system. Capable of dictating tempo, organizing play, and distributing the ball, it's hard not to see the Portuguese as a new Modric or Kroos, even if he lacks the German's long-range passing prowess. And he'll have the entire World Cup to showcase his potential to the Spanish public.
