This was the scene at the business social hub for Lagos elites, Capital Club, on Thursday, March 14, 2024. In collaboration with the incomparable whisky brand, The Macallan, it hosted the yearly African Women on Board (AWB) roundtable to ignite a transformative dialogue on the topic 'Why Disruption Matters.'

With its theme for the year titled "Women’s Leadership and Inclusive Innovation," this event was more than just a gathering; it was a catalyst for change as the Chief Executive Officer, NGX Regulation Tinuade Awe; the Former Country Head, Mastercard Foundation, Chidinma Lawanson and the Managing Director, Co-Creation Hub dialogued to shape a future where women lead with resilience and innovation in workplaces, communities, and industries.

Addressing the dialogue session, NGX Regulation's Chief Executive Officer, Tinuade Awe, underscored the need for inclusivity in nurturing the next generation of female leaders, emphasising the significance of extending support and opportunities. This observation did not isolate the challenges faced by older women on their journey to success, encompassing not only domestic obligations but also physiological constraints that could possibly impede career progression.

Following the round table discussion, a special viewing of “The Spirit of 1926”, a biopic of Janet Harbinson, the former Managing Director of The Macallan, served as a reminder of the power of resilience. This was followed by a sensory whisky tasting of The Macallan Double Cask 15 YO, 18 YO, and the Rare Cask ranges, raising a toast to quiet heroism and the spirit of excellence.

Speaking on the convergence of women in celebration of International Women’s Month, Idorenyin Emmanson, Assistant Brand Manager, Edrington Portfolio Nigeria, captured the essence of the partnership, stating, “The Macallan is dedicated to celebrating the diversity and resilience of women from all walks of life. We are honoured to partner with Capital Club’s annual African Women on Board roundtable to amplify the voices and contributions of every remarkable woman present.”

The AWB’s theme for this year, "Women’s Leadership and Inclusive Innovation," strikes a chord with the challenges and opportunities facing women today. Insights by UN Women indicate that women globally face significant challenges in achieving leadership positions, with underrepresentation persisting across executive government, national parliaments, and local government. Gender quotas have played a vital role in increasing women's leadership participation, yet achieving balanced representation remains a formidable task. However, research highlights the positive impact of women's leadership on decision-making processes, indicating the importance of further promoting gender parity to foster inclusive governing systems.

In the end, the event wasn't just about conversations; it focused on inspiring action to create a world where female leaders thrive and where every woman's voice is heard and valued. It was a step towards a future where women lead not only with ambition but with authenticity, resilience, and unwavering determination.
