In an interview with Greek media, he discussed what lies ahead for the "Greens" following Željko Obradović's return.

I'm incredibly excited for Panathinaikos. I always speak highly of the Greek people. I watch Panathinaikos whenever I can, as their games usually start around 2 PM. Sometimes I'll even move my practice from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM just so I can catch the game. Coach Obradović's return brings a fantastic story, and I'm genuinely happy for him. He has contributed so much to European basketball and to Panathinaikos. To end his career with a significant budget and at a major club, with which he won five European championships, is wonderful for both him and the fans.Rick Pitino

Pitino then elaborated on the elements that define a coach's greatness and the legacy they leave at a club.

First and foremost, it's titles. That's the ultimate measure. Then, it's the respect of the players. Coach Obradović is demanding, but he treats everyone equally and with great respect. He has earned the respect of players, fans, and the media. It's a great way to conclude such a brilliant career.

He also spoke about the controversial owner of the Athenian team, Dimitris Giannakopoulos.

The owner of Panathinaikos is a very intense and passionate individual, with whom I had an excellent relationship. He treated me very well and with great respect. We had a low budget, around $12 million, but I truly enjoyed those two years. His passion attracts the fans. When I watch Panathinaikos on television, so many memories come flooding back. You don't see owners or fans behaving like that in the United States.
