Terrifying Wemby and Spurs Dismantle Oklahoma: Neither Shai nor Topić Could Prevent Thunder's Humiliation /VIDEO/
The Spurs didn't wallow in despair after Oklahoma snatched a crucial road win. While home-court advantage slipped through their fingers, they did everything to level the series and ensure more electrifying basketball.
The game started with intense back-and-forth action, but Oklahoma's last lead came at 8-7. What followed was a brutal awakening. The Spurs unleashed a devastating 16-0 run, effectively blowing their rivals off the court. The Thunder managed to stay somewhat in contention until the end of the second quarter (43-38), but then another blitzkrieg ensued – a 7-0 run sent the home team into halftime with a commanding 50-38 lead.
If anyone in the arena harbored hopes for the visitors after a brief surge at the start of the second half, they were quickly disabused of that notion. The Spurs hit the gas, orchestrating another 15-0 run to establish a maximum lead of 27 points (72-45). At that point, the contest was effectively over, with the remainder of the game simply a formality.
Once again, the incredible Victor Wembanyama was the Spurs' maestro. The Frenchman was a force across the court, finishing with 33 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks! He was ably supported by Castle and Wessel, who each contributed 13 points, while Fox recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
On the opposing side, the reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander completely underperformed. The Spurs locked him down, and he finished the game with a modest 19 points (6/15 shooting from the field) and seven assists. Hartenstein added 12 points and seven rebounds, but it was far too little against the red-hot home team.
Serbian international Nikola Topić was given an opportunity for Oklahoma and managed to record two points and two assists during his time on the court.
The series now shifts to Oklahoma for a fiery Game 5, a pivotal matchup set for the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. Game 6 will then be played two days later, returning to Texas.
