The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier called for Tambuwal’s resignation after he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A source told Daily Trust:

"Early this morning, few minutes after midnight to be precise, top level security report informed the Speaker that orders have been given for the withdrawal of his security details.”

It is believed that the withdrawal of the speaker’s security detail is connected with his defection to the opposition party.

As a result of his position, Tambuwal is ordinarily entitled to 24-hour security carried out by officers of the Police force, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Security (DSS).

A similar situation was reported in Rivers State in 2013 when the security detail of Governor Rotimi Amaechi was withdrawn by then Police Commissioner of the state, Mbu Joseph Mbu supposedly due to the fact that Amaechi was at loggerheads with President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP.
