Sean Strickland has revealed the full extent of a reckless sparring session just days before his fight, which forced him to face Khamzat Chimaev with a significant injury. The American overdid it during a training session with PFL star Johnny Eblen, mere days before the historic UFC 328 main event.
After colliding hard with a wall at Alex Pereira's gym, Strickland claims he suffered a shoulder tear, putting his participation in the bout in jeopardy. Despite this, he managed to largely stay on his feet against the renowned grappler Chimaev and even found himself in dominant ground positions on several occasions.

The most intriguing detail, however, emerged when he confirmed a serious injury sustained upon arriving in New Jersey. “A funny story,” he began. “On Tuesday, I’m sparring with Johnny, that scumbag, the PFL champion. He took me down. I hit a brick wall and tore my shoulder. So, on Tuesday, I got a Grade 1 acromioclavicular joint tear, and I remember lying in bed Tuesday night. I’m sure there’s a video somewhere of me hitting my shoulder – put up better padding! I was lying there and couldn’t lie on my right side.”
The Californian ultimately secured a split decision victory after 25 minutes of intense action inside the Octagon at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
