Nothing like some controversy to draw some much needed attention, and this is a ploy Turkey has used recently.

In a bid to attract tourists to the area, Turkey deliberately sunk an A300 Airbus jet off the Aegean coast over the weekend.

The 177 foot plane was submerged about 50 miles south of resort town, Izmir in Kuşadası.

Speaking on the move, Özlem Çerçioğlu, a mayor for the region said they expect some 250,000 domestic and foreign tourists per year to come to the area for diving.

In the wake of recent terror attacks in the country, Turkey is attempting to boost its battered tourism industry.
