Stefon Castle Takes a Jab at Refs: Spurs Don't Have the 'Same Luxury' as Oklahoma!
The San Antonio Spurs star had some interesting remarks following their Game 5 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
When asked on Tuesday night about the reigning champions' stifling defense, the Spurs player stated that they need to adapt and cannot match the same level of physicality that the Thunder are allowed. “It’s tough trying to play through all that, you know,” Castle told reporters after the 127-115 defeat.
I think with the way they play defense and how physical they are, we sometimes don't have that same luxury to play as aggressively and physically on the other end of the court.Stefon Castle
Although he led the Spurs with 24 points, Castle and his team struggled offensively, shooting just 40.2% in Game 5. Victor Wembanyama had a particularly tough night, scoring 20 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the field.
On the other hand, the Thunder excelled, successfully shutting down the Spurs with their aggressive defense. They also dominated the free-throw battle in Game 5, collectively shooting 33 of 38 from the charity stripe, while the Spurs went 28 of 32.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander alone shot 16 of 17 from the free-throw line, finishing the game with 32 points despite making only seven field goals. Trailing 2-3 in the series, Castle and the Spurs will be looking for a chance to rebound and secure a victory in Game 6 in San Antonio to keep their season and championship dreams alive.
