Valencia, the EuroLeague's surprise package this season, ultimately saw their journey end in the Final Four semifinals in Athens against Real Madrid. Now, the focus shifts to the future.

The club's management prepared a package worth nearly two million euros for the upcoming season, including an option to extend the collaboration until 2028 with progressive salary increases. However, the 22-year-old basketball player has decided it's time for a new career step.

According to reports from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo and sources within basketball circles, Olympiacos is currently closest to reaching an agreement with Montero. Negotiations are in an advanced stage, with a pre-contract reportedly already in place between the Greek club and the talented point guard.

Montero had an outstanding competitive year, being named the regular season's Most Valuable Player and the EuroLeague's "Rising Star," which positioned him as one of the most sought-after talents on the market. Besides Olympiacos, Red Star, Barcelona, Panathinaikos, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Dubai have also shown serious interest in his services.

While Montero doesn't hide his ultimate goal of playing in the NBA, that option is not currently his priority. The player aims to secure stable athletic development in Europe before heading to the United States. Meanwhile, Valencia is already forced to rebuild their team due to their leader's departure, with T.J. Shorts being mentioned as a primary target and potential replacement at the point guard position.
