Should Spain's top scorer, Mikel Oyarzabal, find the net in today's World Cup 2026 final against Argentina, he will become the sole record holder for most goals scored by a Spanish player in a single tournament edition.
Currently, the Real Sociedad forward shares this prestigious record with legends Emilio Butragueño (1986 World Cup) and David Villa (2010 World Cup), with all three having scored five goals in one World Cup campaign. So far, Oyarzabal has netted twice against Saudi Arabia (4-0) and Austria (3-0), scored once against France (2-0), and failed to score against Cape Verde (0-0), Portugal (1-0), and Belgium (2-1).
Interestingly, the 29-year-old has scored one goal in each of his six career finals: the Copa del Rey (2021 and 2026), the Olympics (2021), the Nations League (2021 and 2025), and Euro 2024.
