Getafe defender Juan Iglesias has accused Spain's Euro 2024 final hero, Mikel Oyarzabal, of insulting his wife during Wednesday's match against Real Sociedad. The game, which ended in a narrow victory for the Basque side, was marred by controversy following an otherwise uneventful encounter.

“He covers his mouth to insult my wife. He doesn't have the guts to say it directly to my face, so he hides his mouth,” Iglesias stated after the match.

Oyarzabal himself, who scored Spain's winning goal against England years ago, vehemently denies the accusations. After the Getafe player's comments spread, the Real Sociedad captain, accompanied by several teammates and sporting director Erik Bretos, went to the visitors' dressing room to clarify the situation.

Despite this, Real Sociedad directed their criticism at Juan Iglesias for his statement: “These are the values they have here.” The club deemed these words dismissive and a critique of the Basque community's values, which was not well-received. Meanwhile, the program El Larguero on Cadena SER confirmed that Real Sociedad's official stance was not to send any players to the mixed zone because they “did not want to stoop to their level.”

The only official club statement came from coach Pellegrino Matarazzo at the post-match press conference, who sided with Oyarzabal: “Mikel has received far more serious insults than what Juan Iglesias said. If a player comes out and says something like that to the press, it speaks volumes about his character,” commented the American coach.
