Airline crew suspended for allowing Bollywood star sing to passengers via in-flight intercom
What would have been a happy, memorable moment has gone horribly wrong for the crew of a Jet Airways flight following their suspension for allowing famous Bollywood star, Sonu Nigam serenade fellow passengers while on a flight.
According to Yahoo Travel, the incident happened on January 4th when Nigam who is one of India’s highest-paid singers, jumped on the intercom on a flight Jodhpur to Mumbai.
Expectedly, the stunt attracted attention from fellow passengers who snapped photos and captured video which went viral on social media.
The video attracted the attention of government officials at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation who conducted an investigation to see if any rules were broken during the stunt.
Following a month of investigations, government officials alerted the airline that cabin crew had violated regulations and misused the in-flight announcement system.
The suspension of the cabin crew however sent Indian social media into a frenzy with many people angered over the airline’s decision to punish the cabin crew.
One of those who reacted was the man at the centre of the controversy - Nigam who told The Times of India that “to suspend crew members for asking me to sing on the address system, when the seat-belt signs were off, and no announcements were to be made, is nothing less than punishing someone for spreading happiness,”
