In their match against Argentina, the Swiss squad managed to recover from a goal down, but soon found themselves with ten men after Breel Embolo received a red card.

Despite the disadvantage, the Swiss held their ground, forcing the game into extra time. However, Argentina scored two goals in the additional period, crushing Switzerland's hopes.

Thousands of fans gathered in Lugano's main square to watch the match on one of the many giant screens set up across the country, despite the late hour.

“We believed, and at one point, we thought we'd at least make it to penalties. Unfortunately, Alvarez pulled off that incredible play, an unstoppable shot into the top corner. We had an amazing goalkeeper and defense, but sadly, that's how it unfolded,” commented Fabio Demartini.

There was also significant disappointment regarding Embolo's sending off.

“Switzerland was quite solid today; we played as a team, but we have an idiot for a striker. He disrespected the nation and the people. He faked it, and we lost a player. Argentina was really good; they scored a crazy goal. Switzerland gave their all, and I am proud, proud of this nation,” stated Leonardo Prati.

Another supporter, Jason Zanetti, said after the match:

“They played a good game, they showed they could be better than Argentina, but every time we were missing something, and if you're missing something, you can't go too far.”

Miriam Galimberti tried to find a positive angle:

“We lost, but we lost with dignity. We managed to reach the quarterfinals, and that's already a wonderful achievement. We didn't need that goal against us, but we're still great,” she declared.

Argentina defeated Switzerland 3-1 after extra time, advancing to the semifinals where they will face England.
