Norway's national team coach, Ståle Solbakken, is looking for Alexander Sørloth to step out of Erling Haaland's shadow in their World Cup quarter-final clash against England. The Atlético Madrid forward has yet to score in the tournament, while his attacking partner Haaland has already netted 7 goals.
Solbakken stated that Sørloth will play a significant role in the crucial encounter in Miami, set for Saturday night into Sunday Bulgarian time.
"Sørloth has done a very good job for the team; he also helps Erling. Sometimes he's not quite as good on the ball, but his physical presence for the team is always strong. He wants to score, and it's not too late for that now," commented Solbakken at a press conference ahead of what he called the biggest match in Norwegian football history.
The warm weather in South Florida could exhaust players in the open-air stadium, but Solbakken isn't using it as an excuse.
"Obviously, intensity is a major part of how football is evolving. Players are increasingly well-prepared. The weather here must be taken into account. It affects the pressing of all teams. These are two squads that employ similar pressing tactics," Solbakken added.
Norway is participating in its first World Cup since 1998, while England has lost two consecutive European Championship finals.
"England is under more pressure than us. My players are in a calm yet dynamic mood, ready for the match. It's a good balance," Solbakken concluded.
