Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone expressed his dissatisfaction following his team's 3-2 defeat to Elche. While commending the opposition's strong performance, he simultaneously criticized his own players, stating they must work diligently to avoid repeating such a display.
"First, I congratulate Elche. Football is beautiful, and this match proves it. When a team that has already been relegated plays with such pride and intensity, it's the best thing in sports. They were better than us in many aspects of the game. We started the match poorly. The goal they scored came from a situation we handed them ourselves. In football, if you don't enter the match with the right concentration, you always pay the price," Simeone remarked.
He once again voiced his displeasure with the team's lack of effectiveness in the attacking third.
"They were more intense than us throughout the entire match. We had our opportunities to equalize or change the course of the game, but we weren't clinical in front of goal. They deserved the victory because they invested more in the key moments," the coach added.
"I'm not looking for excuses. When an opponent surpasses you in desire and intensity, there's nothing else to say but to acknowledge your mistakes and move forward. We must accept reality and work to avoid repeating such performances," the Argentine concluded.
