“My thoughts remain the same as they were in South Korea. I handle the sporting side of things. We've discussed it, as always. I understand that, from a sporting perspective, he still needs a little more time to be fully prepared for Sunday. He requires more training. He is our best attacking player, and we will try to build a team around him, considering his potential, talent, and experience, as well as what he has contributed to the team over the years he's been here. We haven't planned for him to play in this match. I hope that over the next four days, he will be closer to where we want him to be,” Simeone commented at his press conference today.

The specialist was also asked about the statements made by club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, who emphatically stated that he would not sell Álvarez to Barcelona. “He is the owner of the club. There is no more decisive person than the owner, that is more than clear. It's like when a judge delivers a verdict. What he stated is crystal clear. From a sporting perspective, we want to take care of the person and the player so that he can continue to uphold his reputation. Forgiveness from the fans towards him? Let people think what they want. I have been very respectful in all situations we've encountered. Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa… and now Julián. I am quite respectful of everyone's opinions,” added El Cholo.
