Diego Simeone believes the teams capable of bouncing back quickest from rough patches will ultimately contest the La Liga title. Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's trip to face Levante, the Atletico Madrid manager emphasised that fluctuations in form are an inevitable part of any long campaign.
"I'm not going to focus on other teams. We'll go through very good, normal, and not-so-good moments because that's just life. A lot happens over the course of a season. Those who manage to emerge from difficult spells the fastest will be the ones fighting for the title in the end," the Argentine stated.
Atletico sit just two points behind league leaders Barcelona, but Simeone refused to deviate from his trademark philosophy. "We will continue in the same way – game by game. We need a strong performance against a side that makes things difficult and is very formidable at home. Levante have a clear identity and know exactly how they want to play," the manager remarked.
He also touched upon the current form of several squad members. Discussing Ademola Lookman, Simeone conceded the forward is not currently replicating the sparkling form he displayed upon his arrival, but reaffirmed the club's full confidence in his ability. "We know what he can offer us. In training, he has to show the coaching staff his progress to earn his opportunities," he explained. The Argentine tactician also commented on Hjulmand's adaptation, noting that the Dane faces stiff competition from Koke, Pablo Barrios, and Johnny Cardoso for a starting berth in midfield. Finally, Simeone extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the train crash in Toledo, describing the tragedy as an extremely painful moment.
