Atlético Madrid will be without Julián Álvarez for the start of LaLiga. The Argentine forward's absence from the clash against Málaga was officially confirmed by Diego Simeone during Tuesday's pre-match press conference.
The Rojiblancos' coach explained that the decision is based strictly on preparation and physical condition, believing that the team's star still requires more on-field work to reach optimal match fitness.
Despite omitting him from the squad, Simeone emphasized the forward's central role in his tactical setup. "We continue to believe in the idea of building a team around him," he stated, highlighting the player's strategic importance.
The coaching staff aims to protect the athlete to avoid unnecessary risks. In this regard, Cholo was unequivocal about the forward's current state: "We look after the person and the player; we understand that for this game, he is not in the right condition to play."
On a personal level, the coach highlighted the excellent relationship he maintains with the forward, describing him as an "extraordinary young man." Simeone also backed the club's firm stance, concluding any debate by stating that "if the club owner has spoken so emphatically, I believe there is nothing more to add."
The Argentine star, it should be noted, continues to be linked as a priority target for Barcelona, although the Spanish champions reportedly have alternatives in mind.
