In a surprising development, one of the World Rally Championship's (WRC) most iconic events, Rally Portugal, has been dropped from the 2027 calendar, reports DirtFish, citing an official statement from the organizers.

"With scheduled dates between May 13 and 16, Rally Portugal became one of the events impacted by last-minute adjustments made by the promoter during the final planning stages of the World Rally Championship season, which aimed to make it as diverse and globally representative as possible. Initial discussions between the Automóvel Club de Portugal and the WRC promoter regarding a return to the calendar for the 2028 season are already underway," the organizers stated.

Rally Portugal first joined the World Rally Championship calendar in 1973 and was held annually until 2001, when it lost its spot. The event returned in 2007 and has been a permanent fixture for the past two decades, with the sole exception of 2020, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
