Michael Edwards has stepped down from his role as CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool FC. This marks the end of his second tenure at Anfield. The company's official statement described his departure as part of a "planned transition."
Edwards spent over a decade at the club between 2011 and 2022, initially as Head of Performance and later as Sporting Director. He returned in March 2024, overseeing all football operations at Liverpool as Jürgen Klopp prepared to depart.
His exit comes before the start of the season, with the club's squad planning far from complete. One of the biggest tasks ahead will be finding a successor for Mohamed Salah. According to local media reports, Sporting Director Richard Hughes may also be on his way out, which would signal significant changes at the top of the club's organizational structure.
