Spanish tactician Luis Garcia Plaza has been named the new head coach of FC Sevilla. The Madrid native replaces Matias Almeyda, who was dismissed by the club on Monday after a string of disappointing results in Spain's La Liga. The club announced a contract extending until the summer of 2027.

Garcia Plaza embarked on his coaching career at the age of 30 following a serious injury. Since then, he has guided both Levante and Mallorca to promotion into La Liga. In between, he also managed Getafe for just under three years. In total, he has overseen teams in Spain's top flight for 229 matches. His most recent stint was with Deportivo Alaves, where he departed in December 2024.

Beyond Spain, his coaching resume includes spells in China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Andalusian club currently sits in 15th place in the league table, holding a three-point cushion above the 18th-place relegation spot.
