Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has sustained a calf injury, which, while not serious, has led to his withdrawal from the Slovenian national team camp, according to The Athletic.
The issue is a recurrence of an inflammation that sidelined him during the summer. Although the injury is not considered severe, a period of rest might be necessary. The 23-year-old's recovery plan will be determined once test results clarify the extent of the injury.
Sesko played through the final two months of last season with this problem as United pushed for a Champions League spot. After missing pre-season training, Sesko was eager to return to action in August. He frequently visited the club's Carrington training ground in June.
This new setback suggests he might have needed a bit more recovery time, though assessing such injuries can be tricky. After scoring against Sabah, Sesko stated he was kept out of play longer than usual to ensure the injury was fully healed.
A United statement released on Monday read: "Benjamin will undergo tests this week, after which his individual recovery plan will be determined."
Sesko missed training after last week's League Cup match against Brighton and was subsequently left out of the squad for the away game at Fulham. United's next fixture is a home match against Tottenham after the international break, scheduled for October 10.
Sesko initially picked up the injury after being kicked in the calf early in the spring but continued to play until the home game against Liverpool at Old Trafford in May. He scored 12 goals for United last season and has two so far this campaign.
