Serbian Star Takes America by Storm! Top Transfer Pick Makes Kentucky Move /VIDEO/
Momčilović chose the Wildcats over Louisville and Arizona. St. John's was also among the schools pursuing him until last week, but the Red Storm withdrew after securing a transfer from Baylor, Tunde Jesufu.
Momčilović, a 6-foot-8 forward entering his junior year, was college basketball's top shooter last season. He averaged 16.9 points and led the NCAA in three-point percentage at 48.7%, ranking fifth nationally with 136 made threes.
Momčilović delivered standout individual performances, including 34 points and eight threes against Cincinnati, 29 points and five threes against Oklahoma State, and 28 points and eight threes against Arizona in the Big 12 Conference Tournament.
During his three seasons in Ames, Iowa State won 83 games and made two appearances in the Sweet Sixteen.
"It's impossible to overstate the significance of this addition for Kentucky's 2026-27 season outlook, as well as for Mark Pope's future as the Wildcats' head coach. Pope enters a pivotal season after a campaign where Kentucky struggled for extended periods, finishing 22-14 and exiting the NCAA Tournament in the second round, despite boasting the nation's most expensive roster," ESPN reported.
With Momčilović now on board – and after starting center Malachi Moreno withdrew his name from the NBA Draft last week – Pope now commands a team projected to be ranked among the top 25.
Kentucky has heavily relied on the transfer portal, as Momčilović is expected to join fellow transfers Alex Wilkins (Furman) and Zum Diallo (Washington) in the Wildcats' starting lineup. Momčilović announced in early April his intention to leave Iowa State and enter both the transfer portal and the NBA Draft. He went through the NBA Draft process, receiving an invitation to the combine. There, he solidified his reputation as one of the elite shooters among prospects, hitting nearly 69% in four shooting drills, but withdrew his name just hours before last week's deadline for early draft entrants, ESPN noted.
