Serbia Nears World Cup Qualification! Turkey Secures First Spot, Here's the Eagles' Group Situation Ahead of Four Crucial Matches
- You could follow the Italy vs. Serbia match live on Sportal.
Our team has taken another significant step towards qualifying for next year's tournament in Doha.
Following their victory over Iceland, Serbia also defeated Italy, placing Dušan Alimpijević's squad in an excellent position ahead of the final four qualification rounds. Two rounds will be played in November, and two in February.
Here's what Serbia needs to qualify for the FIBA World Cup
As announced by FIBA, Turkey has become the first European team to secure a spot in Qatar, achieving this with a dominant 110-73 victory over Iceland.
The European vice-champions lead Group J with an 8-0 record, closely followed by Serbia, who have six wins and two losses.
Italy is next with a 5-3 record, Lithuania stands at 4-4, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland each have three wins and five losses.
With four games remaining, it's highly probable that even two more victories would be enough for us to secure a spot at the continental showpiece. Two triumphs would guarantee we finish ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. Theoretically, only Lithuania could catch us, and that would require them to win all four of their remaining games – we still have two clashes against the Lithuanians.
Serbia could theoretically seal qualification in their very next match, scheduled for November 26th in Lithuania. An away win would almost certainly send us to the World Cup; only an improbable turn of events could keep Serbia out of the tournament.
Therefore, everything could be decided in the upcoming window. Even if it isn't, the Eagles' two August victories have put them in a prime position heading into the final stretch of qualifiers.
