Serbia Dominates BiH, Serbs Give Neighbors a Lesson After "That" in Zetra /VIDEO/
- You could follow the match between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina live on Sportal.
Serbia secured a magnificent victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the sixth round. In a fantastic atmosphere, the Eagles had no theoretical chance of losing in such a measured, gentlemanly, and entirely different environment compared to what we witnessed in Sarajevo.
The crowd in "Pionir" was superb from start to finish. There were, to be fair, sporadic whistles during the anthem, but applause far outweighed any negativity. Once the rendition of "Bože pravde" concluded, basketball took center stage.
Let's rewind a few months. Recall how the Sarajevo crowd welcomed Serbia. It was far from pleasant in "Zetra." There were inappropriate chants, ethnically charged insults, all fueled, of course, by the wars of the 1990s. It was so bad that Dušan Alimpijević felt compelled to address the atmosphere at that game during the post-match press conference, speaking quite ironically about it.
I must say, in our shared language, this is a wonderful atmosphere, a wonderful basketball evening. I've said I prefer playing in atmospheres like this rather than in empty halls. Kudos to Bosnia, kudos to their national team, kudos to the crowd for creating such a great atmosphere. I believe, first, Bosnia could have won, and it would have been deserved tonight. We showed a bit more discipline and physicality in the final quarter, and that was decisive. Our plan was to play physical basketball for all four quarters; we knew we wouldn't win in the first, second, or third, we wanted to break them in the fourth. However, of course, we didn't expect to be trailing for such a long period. All praise to the crowd for the fantastic atmosphere. We all do this job for atmospheres like these. Dušan Alimpijević
This time, it was a completely different story; basketball was the focus, which is what we all love, and there were truly beautiful moments. Nikola Jokić received MVP chants, and when he hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, "Pionir" erupted in joy. Every good play was appropriately celebrated. Nikola Jović's three-pointers rained down, and each of his seven was cheered, while alley-oops and dunks brought the excitement to its peak.
The Belgrade crowd truly showed everyone the proper code of conduct for a basketball game. They rose above cheap ethnic insults, focusing solely on the sport, one of the last things that can unite the entire region. It was a pleasure to witness such an atmosphere, and certainly to be a part of it, and once again, we demonstrated why we rightfully bear the epithet "land of basketball."
