Serbia kicked off their campaign with a convincing 21-14 victory over Madagascar. Nerandžić was the top scorer with 10 points and four rebounds, while Nemanja Barać added five, Strahinja Stojačić four, and Andreja Milutinović two points.
In their second outing, Serbia overcame reigning world champions Spain with a 16-12 triumph. The game started as a tight defensive battle, with the first points not registered until nearly two minutes in. Stojačić proved to be the pivotal player for Serbia, igniting their offense and ultimately sinking the decisive basket that broke Spain's resistance. Stojačić finished with nine points, Nerandžić contributed four, and Milutinović added three.
Two crucial victories. The first game against Madagascar saw us defensively sound for a period, but then our concentration wavered slightly, conceding some easy points. Fortunately, we closed out the game well. More importantly, the win against Spain was a match we prepared for extensively last week in Novi Sad. We were precise and aggressive defensively. I believe we're still finding our rhythm offensively and need to improve our attacking flow, especially converting some of the open shots we've created. It was an important and excellent first day at the World Cup, but we're taking it step by step. Marko Ždero
