Sengun Outshines Wembanyama with Late Takeover to Sink San Antonio: Bogdanovic Celebrates, Jovic Falls
Serbia national team captain Bogdan Bogdanovic also played a part in Houston's victory, spending just over 11 minutes on the court and finishing with three points and a rebound.
However, the main event of the night was the heavyweight battle in the paint between Alperen Sengun and Victor Wembanyama. The Turkish center emerged as the undeniable hero of the game, finishing with 29 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists while delivering in crunch time. With the game on the line in the final five minutes, Sengun took over completely, scoring nine unanswered points to swing the contest decisively in Houston's favor. He was backed by seasoned veteran Kevin Durant, who added 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Wembanyama did everything he could to match his inspired opponent, dominating the boards with 13 rebounds (six more than Sengun) to go with his 25 points. However, down the stretch, he was unable to halt Houston's surge as the Spurs slipped to their second defeat.
Another Serbian player was in action on the night, but Nikola Jovic had little reason to celebrate as his Miami Heat were handed a heavy 128-111 defeat by the Detroit Pistons.
The young Serbian forward registered five points and four rebounds. Miami could not make the most of a stellar performance from Giannis Antetokounmpo, who posted a double-double with 36 points and 12 rebounds. Detroit secured a comfortable win courtesy of a balanced offensive effort featuring six players in double figures, led by John Collins with 23 points, while Paul Reed commanded the paint with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
