Microsoft set to build software for autonomous vehicles
Microsoft has announced it's interest in self-driving (autonomous) cars.
However, the technology company is not interested in building these automobiles.
Rather, the company is simply focused on creating the software that powers these vehicles,
Peggy Johnson, the head of business development at Microsoft, made the announcement at the Converge conference in Hong Kong.
"We won't be building our own autonomous vehicle but we would like to enable autonomous vehicles and assisted driving as well.
We in different ways enabled a variety of different partners and you'll see us continuing to do that.
You're sitting in the car for many, many minutes a day. Can that be part of your new office, can it be your new desk, a place where you actually get work done? We believe it can", Johnson said.
He also announced that Microsoft is open to partners.
This announcement comes after Alphabet, Google's parent company, teamed up with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on a self-driving car deal.
According to The Verge, this deal will result in a self-driving mini-van.
FCA chief, Sergio Marchionne, said the deal is "designed to take Google technology into the minivan."
