Liolios was taken into custody following a period on the run, which had prompted authorities to issue an arrest warrant. Alongside him, five referees and match officials were also detained, triggering one of the biggest scandals in the history of Greek sport.

The federation president denies any wrongdoing, while his legal team insists there is no evidence linking him to match-fixing in basketball.

The case has sent shockwaves through Greek basketball after six individuals were apprehended on suspicion of attempting to manipulate match outcomes linked to sports betting. Among those detained is EuroLeague referee Vasiliki Tsaroucha. During searches connected to the inquiry, police seized €931,463 in cash.

Confiscated items also include 14 mobile phones, six laptops, 22 USB drives, jerseys, sports memorabilia, and other materials that could prove pivotal to the investigation.

Authorities continue to examine alleged match manipulation across multiple tiers of Greek basketball.
