The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is set to retake possession of his passport after an earlier confiscation by the State Security Service (SSS).
President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the SSS to return Sanusi’s passport which was seized on May 3 while he was about to travel to Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj.
The move is believed to have been necessitated by the reconciliation between the former Central Bank Governor and the president after a closed door meeting in Abuja.
The return of the passport has been confirmed by Tijjani Mailafiya, the Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso on Chieftaincy and Emirate Council Affairs, who told journalists that the travel document had been handed to the director in charge of its Kano state command, Bassey Itang.
Sanusi fell out with the Federal Government after he alleged that $20 billion in oil revenue had been misappropriated. This is believed to have led to his suspension on February 20.
However, during the reconciliatory meeting, which held on October 30, Jonathan and Sanusi both reportedly agreed to put the grievances of the past behind them.
