José Alberto López has insisted his side will show no fear when they host Real Madrid on Sunday. While the newly promoted La Liga outfit face a daunting task, their manager remains adamant that sticking to their core identity is the only way to pull off a shock result against the Spanish giants.
Speaking ahead of the clash at El Sardinero, the Racing boss gave his verdict on the opposition managed by José Mourinho: "Real Madrid don't need to play well to beat you. They find the goals first, and the performance follows."
The home coach drew particular attention to the sheer individual quality across the Los Blancos squad, warning that the danger goes far beyond one standout name. "It's not just about Kylian Mbappé – every single player they have is exceptional. Their quality allows them to take control at any given moment. They are world-class talents capable of deciding any situation on their own," he explained.
Despite the immense challenge, José Alberto has no intention of abandoning the philosophy that earned Racing their top-flight return, though he stressed the need for a measured approach. "We'll try to stick to our style because that's our best route to a result. But being brave doesn't mean being reckless. We have to remain balanced, as the demands on the pitch will be sky-high."
The fixture carries immense weight for Santander, who have not faced Madrid in nearly 15 years. "We've spent a long time fighting to get back to matches like this. The club has traveled a hard road, and we're approaching this occasion with composure. Playing teams of this caliber is never easy – for them, every single match is critical. A defeat is painful for us, but for them, even a draw feels like a loss because it could cost them the title," the manager conceded. He also praised Mourinho, noting that the capital club are currently enjoying their best run of form this season.
José Alberto is banking on a fiery atmosphere at El Sardinero to level the playing field. "At home, with our supporters behind us, we feel incredibly strong," he stated, confident the home crowd will turn the stadium into a cauldron for the visitors.
"We have nothing to lose," he concluded, underlining the fearless mindset his squad will take into Sunday's showdown.
