Austria midfielder Marcel Sabitzer didn't hide his profound disappointment immediately following their 3-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup Round of 16. He admitted that despite immense support from their homeland, the Austrian team simply succumbed to a superior opponent and had to accept the reality without envy.
“We certainly got the masses in Austria excited again; people can identify with us. But so soon after the match, I'm simply disappointed because our goal was to advance. We missed it, and we have to acknowledge that without envy. We must admit they are better than us,” Sabitzer candidly shared.
The Austrian leader also analyzed the specific tactical and technical details that made the difference on the pitch in favor of the European champions.
“I think we had some good moments in the first 20 minutes. But in the small details – the final pass, the final action – you can see we lack a bit of quality. That's the difference. I think Spain's victory today is fully deserved,” the midfielder concluded.
