Kano-born Nigerian midfield 'destroyer' happy to be compared with Kante

Nigerian-born defensive midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has welcomed comparisons between him and Chelsea star player Ngolo Kante.

Alhassan, who plays for Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp, has caught the eye after impressive performances in the middle of the pitch for the Mark van Bommel-led side.

The 22-year-old midfielder has become a regular for Royal Antwerp this season, featuring in a midfield three alongside former Roma star Radja Nainggolan and Pieter Gerkens.

While speaking with OJB Sports after Antwerp's 4-2 victory over Royal Union Saint-Gilloise on Wednesday night, Alhassan acknowledged and appreciated the comparisons with Kante.

Alhassan said: “To be compared with Ngolo Kante is a compliment for me, because he’s a good player and I think we have similar style of play. For me to look up to him, it's good."

The former IFK Gothenburg of Sweden player joined Royal Antwerp in the Belgian top flight in July 2021 and spent the 2021/22 season getting acquainted with the club.

The arrival of former Dutch international Van Bommel as the new Royal Antwerp coach saw Yusuf gain more game time till he became a regular in the starting XI.

Alhassan Yusuf has played all six Royal Antwerp's Belgian league matches this season, helping the side to six victories and top of the table.
