Roster Shortlist in Hand, Peñarroya Patient: How Long Partizan Will Wait for New Signings

With roughly two weeks until the start of the new competitive season, KK Partizan is still looking for the final pieces to complete its roster puzzle. While the black-and-whites are content with their current squad, competing on multiple fronts and enduring the demanding EuroLeague schedule has compelled management and the coaching staff to remain active in the market.

According to Mozzart Sport, Partizan has a shortlist of 10 potential reinforcements — primarily basketball players currently in the United States. Coach Joan Peñarroya recently outlined the specific player profiles needed for the team.

"We're looking for a player at the two-three position and another big man, a four or four-five option, who can stretch the floor with their shooting. The market isn't easy right now, but we mustn't panic. I'd rather wait and stay calm than rush into signing someone just to fill a roster spot," the Spanish coach stated.

NBA Waivers: The Key Deadline

The Belgrade club's strategy is closely tied to developments in the NBA. NBA preseason games conclude in mid-October (around October 17th), at which point teams must trim their rosters to a maximum of 15 standard contracts.

The largest wave of player releases is expected between October 17th and 19th. After spending 48 hours on the waiver wire, released players become unrestricted free agents and are then eligible to negotiate with European clubs.

Mentality First: The Ethan Thompson Example

Beyond playing ability and tactical fit, Peñarroya and the club management are emphasizing character. Partizan isn't looking for players who view leaving the US as a punishment, but rather individuals with clear enthusiasm and a strong desire to prove themselves in the EuroLeague.

Ethan Thompson exemplifies this profile. The former Indiana guard arrived in Belgrade after negotiations with Armoni Brooks and Wendell Moore fell through. From the very start of preseason, Thompson has impressed with his exceptional work ethic and immense enthusiasm in every training session.

All indications are that Partizan will begin the new season with its current roster. The EuroLeague opener is scheduled for September 25th, when Milan visits Belgrade, with final reinforcements expected after the NBA's October roster decisions.
