Rodri: We Are Not Favorites in the Champions League

Barcelona's new signing, Rodri, has shared his thoughts on the Catalan giants' chances in the Champions League. He admitted the team harbors ambitions of lifting the trophy but doesn't believe the Blaugrana are the favorites in the competition.

“Yes, I certainly believe this goal is entirely achievable. You could say this is the final step we need to take to establish ourselves and show all of Europe what kind of team we truly are. At the same time, however, I don't think we are the favorites. We need to be clear about where we started and understand exactly what it takes to become champions. This squad still needs to iron out quite a few details to reach the top,” Rodri commented to “Mundo Deportivo.”

“Players like me come here partly for this reason – to grow themselves and to give the team that component which, in my opinion, is crucial for winning such special trophies as the Champions League. Because for me, this isn't a tournament simply won by the strongest team. The Champions League is a tournament of moments – it's incredibly important to sense exactly when to act. And perhaps that very skill is still missing from the current squad. But if you ask me if we have a chance – it goes without saying that I came here precisely for that,” Rodri added.

Barça began their campaign in Europe's most prestigious club competition with a dominant 5-1 home victory over Feyenoord.
