School to fire Professor for saying Christians, Muslims worship same God
The college of Wheaton, an evangelical college in Illinois, is reportedly planning to sack and Associate professor of Political Science over a controversial statement she made via Facebook.
Larycia Hawkins, has according to reports, been placed on administrative leave after posting a comment on Facebook, saying that Muslims and Christians worship the same God.
“I stand in religious solidarity with Muslims because they, like me, a Christian, are people of the book.
“And as Pope Francis stated last week, we worship the same God.”
Hawkins' is also reported to have added that she would be wearing a hijab during the Advent season in support of Muslims.
For Hawkins’ administrative review process, Wheaton administration had reportedly requested a theological statement, which Hawkins had submitted.
The college had commented on Hawkins' theological convictions, saying:
“Following Dr. Hawkins’ written response on December 17 to questions regarding her theological convictions, the College requested further theological discussion and clarification.
“However, as posted previously, Dr. Hawkins declined to participate in further dialogue about the theological implications of her public statements and her December 17 response.”
According to Chicago Tribune, Hawkins had previously been asked to affirm the college’s statement of faith, at least four times since she began teaching at Wheaton College about 9 years ago.
