Reports in Italy: Six WRC rallies for Rovanperä, three for Ogier next season
Rally fans are set to witness the return of two-time world champion Kalle Rovanperä to the WRC during the 2027 season. The report comes from Italian publication TuttoRally and has not yet been confirmed by Toyota.
According to the outlet, Rovanperä will once again contest a partial campaign, piloting the team's new sixth car across six of the 15 scheduled rounds next year. Nine-time world champion Sébastien Ogier is also set to feature next season with a planned three-round programme, though he is expected to skip his beloved Rallye Monte-Carlo in January. Specific details regarding their exact rally schedules have yet to be disclosed.
The report also states that 2019 world champion Ott Tänak will return to full-time competition. The Estonian rejoined Toyota this year in a test driver capacity, focusing on developing the new machine built for the 2027 season under the WRC27 technical regulations.
Newly crowned world champion Elfyn Evans remains with the squad, as do Oliver Solberg and Sami Pajari, who pushed the Welshman in the 2026 championship battle right down to the final stage.
Earlier this year, Toyota deputy team principal Juha Kankkunen revealed that the Japanese outfit could field six factory entries next season, as the new Rally1 machinery will be cheaper to run and more cost-effective than the cars used through the end of 2026.
